Ophis – Spew Forth Odium (Review)

Ophis - Spew Forth OdiumOphis are a German death/doom band and this is their fifth album.

I do like Ophis’ work. 2014’s Abhorrence in Opulence and The Dismal Circle were both crushing records, and Spew Forth Odium is no different in this regard. Featuring members of Fvneral Fvkk and Todtgelichter, Ophis know their chosen art form well, and Spew Forth Odium contains 64 minutes of foul underground heaviness and gloom. Worm – Foreverglade (Review)

Worm - ForevergladeThis is the third album from Worm, a blackened death/doom band from the US.

Foreverglade is the fetid swamp where black metal, funeral doom, and death metal meet and all drown slowly. It hard not to get caught up in the band’s rotting stench. I mean, a blackened form of death/doom? One which knows how to craft atmosphere as well as crush with brutal harsh nastiness, all tied together with very effective songwriting? Sign me up. Right now. Hooded Menace – The Tritonus Bell (Review)

Hooded Menace - The Tritonus BellThis is the sixth album from Finnish death/doom band Hooded Menace.

Following on from 2015’s Darkness Drips Forth and 2018’s Ossuarium Silhouettes Unhallowed, The Tritonus Bell is another gruesome slab of death/doom, only this time it has been infused with a greater amount of classic heavy metal influences. The Slow Death – Siege (Review)

The Slow Death - SiegeThis is the fourth album from Australian death/doom band The Slow Death.

The Slow Death contain current and ex-members of bands such as Illimitable Dolor and Temple Nightside. On Siege, we are given 63 minutes of crushing death/doom metal, which also contains elements of Gothic metal and funeral doom. Featuring four colossal songs, this is a dark and gloomy trip into a world of multifaceted misery and woe. Continue reading “The Slow Death – Siege (Review)”

Cerebral Rot – Excretion of Mortality (Review)

Cerebral Rot - Excretion of MortalityThis is the second album from US death metallers Cerebral Rot.

Sometimes all you need in order to feel a bit better about life is a slab of good, old-fashioned death metal, the sort that reeks of disgusting foulness and rotting ugliness. 2019’s Odious Descent into Decay was exactly ones such record. Now we have the 47 minutes of horror that is Excretion of Mortality, and it hits the spot very well indeed. Continue reading “Cerebral Rot – Excretion of Mortality (Review)”

Oceana – The Pattern (Review)

Oceana - The PatternOceana are a progressive metal band from Italy and this is their debut album.

As an introductory description of The Pattern, I’m just going to be lazy and quite the promo blurb – “The intent was to mix progressive metal elements with European-style death doom. Influences, from a musical point of view, range from Edge of Sanity to Katatonia, from Paradise Lost to Duran Duran, from Metallica to Dream Theater, in a Continue reading “Oceana – The Pattern (Review)”
