This is the third album from Belgian sludge/doom metal band Oldd Wvrms.
The follow up to 2016’s Ignobilis, Oldd Wvrms have returned with a new 54 minutes of material. Continue reading “Oldd Wvrms – Codex Tenebris (Review)”

Illimitable Dolor and Promethean Misery are both from Australia, and both play variants of doom metal.
This is my first experience of Illimitable Dolor, which is a shame, as they come highly recommended, (and also feature members of the very enjoyable funeral doom band The Slow Death), but I’ve never heard them before this. Here they offer us two tracks, clocking in at 26 minutes in total. Continue reading “Illimitable Dolor/Promethean Misery – Split (Review)”
Depleted is a one man death/doom band from the US and this is his debut demo.
Brought to us by a member of the rabidly aggressive Maltheist, Depleted is a different proposition, but no less nasty in intent. Continue reading “Depleted – Conjurations of Void (Review)”
This is the second album from A Thousand Sufferings, a Belgian blackened doom band.
We last heard from A Thousand Sufferings in 2015 with their debut album Burden. This was a dark slab of doom/sludge metal, and with Bleakness A Thousand Sufferings have capitalised on the strengths of that early record and produced 41 minutes of tortured and pained heavy music. Continue reading “A Thousand Sufferings – Bleakness (Review)”
This is the third album from A Pale Horse Named Death, a Gothic/doom metal band from the US.
Featuring the ex-drummer of both Type O Negative and Life of Agony, When the World Becomes Undone is the band’s latest release after a long wait; their second album came out in 2013. Continue reading “A Pale Horse Named Death – When the World Becomes Undone (Review)”
Cóndor are a Colombian death/doom/heavy metal band and this is their fourth album.
Cóndor, (with members of Siete Lagunas), play a beguiling and personable mix of death metal and classic doom/heavy metal, at least musically. Vocally, we’re firmly in the territory of formidably daemonic harsh growls for most of the time, (we also get the occasional spoken word part and clean singing on the final song, the folky title track). Continue reading “Cóndor – El Valle del Cóndor (Review)”
Le Menhir is a one man post-metal band from the UK and this is his latest EP.
Earlier in the year I had the pleasure of listening to the debut release from this project, Orage. Well, the artist is now back with a new three track EP. After a brief intro track, we get two songs of new material, lasting 17 minutes in total. Continue reading “Le Menhir – Aube (Review)”
Yatra are a doom band from the US and this is their debut album.
Now here we have an album that’s infused with darkness; it’s almost tangible, but in a warm, smoky way. Mixing ugly doom, riff-hungry stoner, blackened sludge, and harsh drone influences into 45 minutes of material, Death Ritual showcases the dark underbelly of doom metal. Continue reading “Yatra – Death Ritual (Review)”
Lucifer’s Fall are an Australian doom metal band and this is their latest release. It’s an oddball collection of rarities – live tracks, rehearsals, covers, splits, demos, etc. – 62 minutes of raucous, rocking doom metal. Sorry, DOOM METAL!
I can’t help but really like Lucifer’s Fall. They’ve got songs, they’ve got attitude, and they’ve got balls. What’s not to like? Continue reading “Lucifer’s Fall – Tales from the Crypt (Review)”
This is the fifth album from Majestic Downfall, a Mexican death/doom band.
Having enjoyed very much Majestic Downfall’s 2014 split with The Slow Death, a new album of 52-minute duration is well-received. Continue reading “Majestic Downfall – Waters of Fate (Review)”
