Cabal – Everything Rots (Review)

Cabal - Everything RotsThis is the fourth album from Danish deathcore band Cabal.

I really like Cabal, so was well chuffed when Everything Rots appeared on the horizon like a gathering storm. 2020’s Drag Me Down and 2022’s Magno Interitus were both first class examples of deathcore heaviness. The latter showed a progression in the band’s sound too, reducing the blackened influences. What will the 38 minutes of new material on Everything Rots reveal? The Origin of Madness Tour – Enterprise Earth/Distant/The Last Ten Seconds of Life/Harbinger – Rebellion, Manchester – 27/02/25 (Live Review)

The Origin of Madness Tour - Enterprise Earth Distant The Last Ten Seconds of Life Harbinger - Rebellion, Manchester - 27.02.25

I didn’t want to miss the chance to see Distant and Enterprise Earth, so I have been looking forward to this show. The latter in particular keep impressing me, to the point where they are now easily one of my favourites when it comes to the deathcore and related styles.

It’s not one of the busiest shows I’ve been to unfortunately, (although it certainly wasn’t as empty as some), but for those in attendance it was riotously good fun. Distant – Tsukuyomi: The Origin (Review)

Distant - Tsukuyomi The OriginThis is the fourth album from Distant, a deathcore band from the Netherlands.

I always enjoy catching up with Distant. Their brand of downtempo deathcore heaviness has always stood out as better than the norm, (check out Tyrannotophia, Dawn of Corruption, Dusk of Anguish, and Heritage), so I knew I had to check out Tsukuyomi: The Origin. Saltwound – The Temptation of Pain (Review)

Saltwound - The Temptation of PainSaltwound are a death/metalcore band from the US and this is their debut album.

The Temptation of Pain provides us with a brutal and intense hybrid form of deathcore and metalcore. Saltwound spend 29 minutes abusing and punishing with their destructive brand of heaviness. Continue reading “Saltwound – The Temptation of Pain (Review)”

Downfall of Mankind – Purgatory (Review)

Downfall of Mankind - PurgatoryThis is the second album from Portuguese deathcore band Downfall of Mankind.

The promo blurb recommends Purgatory for fans of bands such as Distant, Gojira, and Lorna Shore, and calls it a mix of deathcore, progressive metal and atmosphere, which saves me the job of providing a rough overview before we get into the meat of it. Continue reading “Downfall of Mankind – Purgatory (Review)”

Distant – Heritage (Review)

Distant - HeritageThis is the third album from Distant, a deathcore band from the Netherlands.

TyrannotophiaDusk of Anguish, and Dawn of Corruption – all thoroughly crushing examples of modern downtempo deathcore brutality. How could I not want to check out Distant’s newest? At 47 minutes in duration it’s on the longer side for something like this, but in this case the quantity is backed up by the quality. Continue reading “Distant – Heritage (Review)”

Hanging the Nihilist – Prophetic Blasphemy (Review)

Hanging the Nihilist - Prophetic BlasphemyHanging the Nihilist are a blackened deathcore band from Denmark and this is their debut album.

Prophetic Blasphemy contains 42 minutes of brutal modern blackened deathcore. Riven with huge breakdowns and enhanced with blackened malevolence, Prophetic Blasphemy is on the darker, heavier side of the deathcore spectrum, and I like what I hear. Continue reading “Hanging the Nihilist – Prophetic Blasphemy (Review)”

Worm Shepherd – In the Wake ov Sòl (Review)

Worm Shepherd - In the Wake ov SòlWorm Shepherd are a blackened deathcore band and this is their debut album.

Blackened melodies expand with fiery grace and keyboards swell with malevolent doom, only to be cruelly cast aside by cold, merciless slams when the moment is right. Worm Shepherd play a form of blackened deathcore that combines Continue reading “Worm Shepherd – In the Wake ov Sòl (Review)”

Bound in Fear – Eternal (Review)

Bound in Fear - EternalThis is the latest EP from Bound in Fear, a deathcore band from the UK.

Eternal follows up 2019’s The Hand of Violence with a crushing 23 minutes of new material. Across five tracks the band once more demonstrate that they can Continue reading “Bound in Fear – Eternal (Review)”

Distant – Dawn of Corruption (Review)

Distant - Dawn of CorruptionThis is the latest EP from Distant, a deathcore band from the Netherlands.

Sometimes you just want a hit of something thunderously heavy. 2019’s Tyrannotophia was one such hit, (more like a smash), so when Dawn of Corruption was unveiled, I knew I was in for a fresh beating. Continue reading “Distant – Dawn of Corruption (Review)”
