Crown Magnetar – Punishment (Review)

Crown Magnetar - PunishmentThis is the latest EP from US deathcore band Crown Magnetar.

Containing 13 minutes of material, Crown Magnetar play deathcore on the more brutal end of the spectrum. Punishment is aptly named, dishing out four succinct beatings that don’t hold back. Continue reading “Crown Magnetar – Punishment (Review)”

Cryptosis – Celestial Death (Review)

Cryptosis - Celestial DeathCryptosis are a extreme metal band from the Netherlands and this is their second album.

Following on from 2021’s well-received Bionic Swarm, Cryptosis are now back with the 42-minute face ripper Celestial Death. I am of the opinion that a black metal touch makes everything better. Cryptosis seem to agree. Continue reading “Cryptosis – Celestial Death (Review)”

Whitechapel – Hymns in Dissonance (Review)

Whitechapel - Hymns in DissonanceThis is the ninth album from US deathcore/death metal band Whitechapel.

I do so enjoy a new Whitechapel album. Our Endless WarMark of the Blade, The Valley, Kin – take your pick; all Whitechapel albums have something a to offer, and all hit the spot for yours truly. Well, the band are back once more with a new 45-minute album in the shape of Hymns in Dissonance. Continue reading “Whitechapel – Hymns in Dissonance (Review)”

Avulsed – Phoenix Cryptobiosis (Review)

Avulsed - Phoenix CryptobiosisAvulsed are a Spanish death metal band and this is their seventh album, (or eighth, if you include Deathgenerations).

It’s been sooooooo long since the last Avulsed album. 2013, in fact – Ritual Zombi. The band haven’t been totally dormant though, as 2015 brought us the EP Altar of Disembowelment, and then over the following two years we were subjected to a whole a feast of gore in Deathgenerations and Night of the Living Deathgenerations. Arising from personal tragedy, 2023 then teased us with the two-track  Extraterrestrial Carnage, which whet the appetite for more quite considerably. And more, we now have. The Origin of Madness Tour – Enterprise Earth/Distant/The Last Ten Seconds of Life/Harbinger – Rebellion, Manchester – 27/02/25 (Live Review)

The Origin of Madness Tour - Enterprise Earth Distant The Last Ten Seconds of Life Harbinger - Rebellion, Manchester - 27.02.25

I didn’t want to miss the chance to see Distant and Enterprise Earth, so I have been looking forward to this show. The latter in particular keep impressing me, to the point where they are now easily one of my favourites when it comes to the deathcore and related styles.

It’s not one of the busiest shows I’ve been to unfortunately, (although it certainly wasn’t as empty as some), but for those in attendance it was riotously good fun. Vacuous – In His Blood (Review)

Vacuous - In His BloodThis is the second album from UK death metallers Vacuous.

2022’s Dreams of Dysphoria was a record that stood out from the crowd with its own take on a darker version of old-school death metal. As a result, I’ve been really looking forward to In His Blood. Can lightning strike twice? Continue reading “Vacuous – In His Blood (Review)”

Sepulchral Curse – Crimson Moon Evocations (Review)

Sepulchral Curse - Crimson Moon EvocationsThis is the third album from Sepulchral Curse, a Finnish death metal band.

Sepulchral Curse have never let me down yet. Ever since discovering their dark brand of extremity on their 2016 EP At the Onset of Extinction, they have loomed large in my mind as quality purveyors of blackened death metal. Their first two albums – 2020’s Only Ashes Remain and 2023’s Abhorrent Dimensions – were both extremely enjoyable, so we turn to their third one with great expectations. Celestial Scourge – Observers of the Inevitable (Review)

Celestial Scourge - Observers of the InevitableCelestial Scourge are a Norwegian death metal band and this is their debut album.

Featuring members of Blood Red Throne and Deception, Celestial Scourge are here to destroy. Observers of the Inevitable contains 30 minutes of brutal technical death metal, and it’s a raging mass of controlled savagery. Continue reading “Celestial Scourge – Observers of the Inevitable (Review)”

Pissgrave – Malignant Worthlessness (Review)

Pissgrave - Malignant WorthlessnessThis is the third album from US death metallers Pissgrave.

Malignant Worthlessness contains 31 minutes of foul death metal extremity. It’s intense and brutal, but not delivered without skill. For all the rampant aggression and disgusting brutality on display, Pissgrave also know how to write a death metal song that hits the spot. Continue reading “Pissgrave – Malignant Worthlessness (Review)”
