LaColpa – Mea Maxima Culpa (Review)

LaColpaThis is the debut album from Italian doom band LaColpa.

This is filthy blackened doom, added to with some violent noise and harsh sludge. There are only three tracks on this album, but they total almost 40 minutes, and it’s clear from the very start that the band aren’t messing around. Continue reading “LaColpa – Mea Maxima Culpa (Review)”

Forgotten Tomb – We Owe You Nothing (Review)

Forgotten TombThis is the ninth album from Forgotten Tomb, an Italian black/doom/sludge metal band.

I do have a particular fondness for Forgotten Tomb. Over the years they have morphed from depressive black metal into some form of reeking, hideous piece of blackened sludge nastiness. They’ve reached the point now on We Owe You Nothing that they’ve just thrown everything that they like about darkness and hatred into 42 minutes of blackened sludge doom. Primitive Man – Caustic (Review)

Primitive ManPrimitive Man are a US doom band and this is their second album.

Ahhh Primitive Man. As you can see from my reviews of their previous work, (here, here, here, and here), this is a band I absolutely love. Atriarch – Dead as Truth (Review)

AtriarchThis is US blackened doom band Atriarch’s fourth album.

The band’s last album An Unending Pathway was a notable, individual, and very engaging release from 2014, managing to combine elements of doom, black metal, and deathrock effectively and enjoyably. Continue reading “Atriarch – Dead as Truth (Review)”

Owlcrusher – Owlcrusher (Review)

OwlcrusherOwlcrusher are a blackened doom/sludge band from the UK and this is their debut album.

Here we have some truly ugly, colossally heavy music, the likes of which you don’t stumble upon too often. Which, for the listener’s sanity and well-being, is probably a good thing. Continue reading “Owlcrusher – Owlcrusher (Review)”

Skyeater – The Maw of Time (Review)

SkyeaterSkyeater are a blackened doom band from the US and this is their debut album.

Featuring members of Crowhurst, The Maw of Time is an album that mixes black metal and funeral doom. I must say that the resulting four tracks are quite exceptional. Continue reading “Skyeater – The Maw of Time (Review)”

Loathfinder – The Great Tired Ones (Review)

LoathfinderLoathfinder are a Polish blackened doom band and this is their debut EP.

To adequately set the scene for this release, you need only stare at the horrors depicted on the album cover. This is what Loathfinder sound like; slow, repugnant, disgusting, and full of bleak horror. Continue reading “Loathfinder – The Great Tired Ones (Review)”
