Defiatory wear their Bay Area thrash influences on their collective sleeves, yet still manage to sound current and relevant despite this. They combine this classic sound with a strong production and elements of the more modern thrash styles. This is brutal death metal with a hearty slam component. The band have a powerful sound and really go for the kill.

This is the début album from Tides of Sulfur, a death/sludge metal band from the UK.
Like The Dead, Tides of Sulfur combine death and sludge metal together into a hideous, swampy mass. Also like The Dead, it’s hard to know whether to categorise them as death metal or sludge metal. Essentially it doesn’t really matter, I suppose, as the band manage to provide a pretty good synthesis of the two on Extinction Curse.

Temple Nightside are a blackened death metal band from Australia and this is their second album.
The first thing that attracted me to this album was the cover. Mysterious and ominous; the music naturally follows from this too. Also like the cover, the music is quite terrifying when you stop, really pay attention to it and let its dark atmospheres seep into you.

This is post-black metal with liberal lashings of the depressive and doom styles, and a taste for the progressive too.

Monolithe are a French doom band, and this is their sixth album.
Monolithe are no stranger to this site, having been covered previously here, here and here. This latest album is the second part, a companion release, as it were, to their last one, Epsilon Aurigae, and continues their evolution away from their original funeral doom style into uncharted territories.
