Blutsauger – Nocturnal Blood Tyrants (Review)

Blutsauger - Nocturnal Blood TyrantsThis is the debut album from Italian black metal band Blutsauger.

Nocturnal Blood Tyrants contains 34 minutes of primal, atavistic black metal. Blutsauger play it hard, nasty, and grim. It may be 2025, but around these parts it’s 1993. I liked this one a lot. Continue reading “Blutsauger – Nocturnal Blood Tyrants (Review)”

Execrari – Desolation Manifest (Review)

Execrari - Desolation ManifestThis is the debut album from US black metal band Execrari.

Containing a member of Relentless, Execrari’s style is rooted in black metal’s second wave, while also showing some contemporary influences and progressive, melodic, and avant-garde tendencies. Desolation Manifest has come out of nowhere to really impress. There are six songs, spanning 47 minutes, and each track is a powerful reminder of just how potent black metal can be in the right hands. Exciting even, despite its ancient roots. Blackbraid – Blackbraid III (Review)

Blackbraid - Blackbraid IIIThis is the third album from US black metal solo act Blackbraid.

Sea Mosquito – Majestas (Review)

Sea Mosquito - MajestasThis is the second album from UK black metallers Sea Mosquito.

Majestas contains 44 minutes of esoteric black metal. As a rough starting point, think of a compelling mix of bands such as Aara, Blut Aus Nord, Inherits the Void, Deathspell OmegaLabyrinthus Stellarum, Mare Cognitum, Selbst, and Vorga, although Sea Mosquito do offer up an experience that’s their own. Vakker – What Will Become of Our Pain (Review)

Vakker - What Will Become of Our PainThis is the debut album from US black metal band Vakker.

I only encountered What Will Become of Our Pain due to a random social media recommendation, and I’m very glad I did. Vakker play atmospheric black metal, only with the sort of horrific, monstrous vocals that you wouldn’t normally associate with the style. Oskoreien – Hollow Fangs (Review)

Oskoreien - Hollow FangsThis is the third album from US black metal band Oskoreien.

After enjoying both previous Oskoreien albums, it’s come as a surprise to discover that I never actually reviewed either of them. Hollow Fangs is a great opportunity to remedy this, and it’s Oskoreien’s first outing as a full band too. Hollow Fangs contains 39 minutes of new material, so let’s dive in. Mara – Sword of Vengeance (Review)

Mara – Sword of VengeanceMara are a Swedish black metal band and this is their fifth album.

I thoroughly enjoyed 2019’s RÖK and 2022’s Loka Maer, so was pleased to see Sword of Vengeance appear on the horizon, threatening like a blackened storm. Yep, it’s time for 35 minutes of darkness come to swallow the world. Continue reading “Mara – Sword of Vengeance (Review)”

Valdrin – Apex Violator (Review)

Valdrin - Apex ViolatorThis is the latest EP from US black metallers Valdrin.

2023’s Throne of the Lunar Soul was a standout album, so it’s great to have more new Valdrin appear. Apex Violator is a tight 29 minutes, delivering five songs of Valdrin’s sharp, lethal black metal. Continue reading “Valdrin – Apex Violator (Review)”
