Malformed - Confinement of FleshMalformed are a death metal band from Finland and this is their debut album.

Confinement of Flesh contains 33 minutes of old-school death metal played in the USDM style and mixed with Finnish darkness. Filth – Time to Rot (Review)

Filth - Time to RotFilth are a death metal band from Sweden and this is their debut album.

Time to Rot contains 29 minutes of utter Filth. Sorry, this stuff writes itself. This is nasty, stinking, decaying, old-school death metal, and Filth know what they are doing with the style. Continue reading “Filth – Time to Rot (Review)”

Beyond Mortal Dreams – Devastation Hymns (Review)

Beyond Mortal Dreams - Devastation HymnsThis is the latest EP from Australian death metal band Beyond Mortal Dreams.

Oh my, it’s somehow been 11 years (!) since I last caught up with Beyond Mortal Dreams, (Dreaming Death and Lamia). This ends now, with the appropriately named Devastation Hymns. I was impressed with both of those early releases, so I definitely intend to check out what I’ve been missing at some point. For now though, we have this new 31-minute release – five original songs and a Forbidden cover. Continue reading “Beyond Mortal Dreams – Devastation Hymns (Review)”

Drawn and Quartered – Lord of Two Horns (Review)

Drawn and Quartered - Lord of Two HornsThis is the ninth album by US death metallers Drawn and Quartered.

Drawn and Quartered are a very good death metal band, with a history of strong releases. They are the kind of band that can take similar components that are used so well by acts such as Immolation and Incantation, yet manage to fuse these into something that has a personality of its own. At this point in their career Drawn and Quartered have more than shown their talent and longevity in the death metal game, so Lord of Two Horns is an eagerly anticipated release. Continue reading “Drawn and Quartered – Lord of Two Horns (Review)”

Serpent Corpse – Retaliate (Review)

Serpent Corpse - RetaliateSerpent Corpse are a Canadian death metal band and this is their latest EP.

I thoroughly enjoyed 2023’s Blood Sabbath, so am pleased to have this new EP from Serpent Corpse. Retaliate contains 26 minutes of new material – four tracks of hideous old-school death metal for fans of the good stuff. On Retaliate Serpent Corpse have pushed themselves further, with longer songs and a wider breadth of deathly vision. Continue reading “Serpent Corpse – Retaliate (Review)”
