This is the debut album from US grindcore band Defigurement.
Defigurement are described as playing a technical/avant-garde/experimental form of grindcore. Couple this with the fact that the band contain current/ex-members of bands such as Bad Acid Trip, Changeling, Fear Factory, Invidiosus, Malignancy, Success Will Write Apocalypse Across the Sky, and Zillah, and this was one I wanted to check out. This is the sixth album from Australian death metallers Werewolves.
Another year, another Werewolves album. Whether it’s 2022’s From the Cave to the Grave, 2023’s My Enemies Look and Sound Like Me, or 2024’s Die for Us, you basically know what you’re getting yourself into, and in my humble opinion it’s always gonna be good. If ferocious, unforgiving death metal, with a blackened bite and a technical edge is your thing, (along with some thrashy and grindy goodness), then The Ugliest of All is definitely for you. Way back in 2012 I encountered You Are What You Swallow, and I liked it a great deal. La Mort de l’Âme contains 41 minutes of black metal, brought to us in part by members of Conifère. I wasn’t consciously aware of Vespéral before they were announced to play the mighty Fortress Festival next year, although I’ve definitely seen their logo and album art before, somewhere, somehow.
