Crawl – Rituals (Review)

CrawlThis is the debut album from Swedish death metallers Crawl.

Four things made me quite excited to hear this album, even before I really knew too much about it. The first is that it’s coming out on the always reliable Transcending Obscurity Records, (who have been especially Continue reading “Crawl – Rituals (Review)”

Axis of Despair – Contempt for Man (Review)

Axis of DespairAxis of Despair are a Swedish grindcore band and this is their debut album.

Contempt for Man is the follow up to 2016’s Mankind Crawls, which was ferociously enjoyable and showed much promise for the band’s future endeavours. Well, they’ve now made good on that promise with a beefy 20 tracks of serrated grindcore; 33 minutes of new material. Continue reading “Axis of Despair – Contempt for Man (Review)”

Human Cull – Revenant (Review)

Human CullThis is the second album from UK grinders Human Cull.

Was it really 2014 when Stillborn Nation came out? Where does the time go? Well, in Human Cull’s case, it seems to have been well-spent by pouring time and effort into crafting 18 tracks/minutes of blistering contemporary grindcore. Continue reading “Human Cull – Revenant (Review)”

Split Cranium – I’m the Devil and I’m OK (Review)

Split CraniumSplit Cranium are an international hardcore band and this is their second album.

This album features members/ex-members of Isis, Old Man Gloom, Converge, Mamiffer, and Circle, (as well as others). The band play crusty d-beat hardcore punk, with a decidedly more simple and straightforward approach than a lot of the band members’ other projects. Continue reading “Split Cranium – I’m the Devil and I’m OK (Review)”

The Human Race Is Filth – Liberate (Review)

The Human Race Is FilthThe Human Race Is Filth are a US grindcore band and this is their second EP.

Here we have 15 minutes of vicious grindcore mixed with sludge, punk, and crust.

Although for the average person this release is likely to be heard as a relentlessly impenetrable wall of noise, for those that are connoisseurs of all things extreme metal, there’s a surprising amount of variety on this short, violent Continue reading “The Human Race Is Filth – Liberate (Review)”

Rotten Sound – Suffer to Abuse (Review)

Rotten SoundRotten Sound are a Finnish grindcore band and this is their latest EP.

Rotten Sound have always managed to marry up brutally aggressive music with decent songwriting and ferocious delivery. With this in mind, this latest EP offers 12 minutes of exactly this. It’s punishingly harsh, but not without a level of songcraft that’s absent from many grind bands who just tear loose and be done with it. Continue reading “Rotten Sound – Suffer to Abuse (Review)”
