Interview with First Signs of Frost

First Signs of Frost Header

2017 sees the welcome return of First Signs of Frost, back with a revamped lineup and sound. If you’re into a bit of melodic technical rock and haven’t yet checked out their new EP The Shape of Things to Come, then I point you in the direction of the embedded Bandcamp player at the bottom of this interview.

So, without further preamble, let’s get down to it… Continue reading “Interview with First Signs of Frost”

Interview with Arallu

Arallu Logo

Arallu are one of the best bands that you’ve probably never heard of. Every release is better than the last, with the band’s newest album Six being the best of them all in my opinion. I’m listening to it right now as I type these words, and it’s hard to express just how enjoyable and discerning it is. It’s black metal, and contains a lot of the traditional ingredients you’d expect to find in black metal, but the way it’s all cooked up and spiced with Middle Eastern themes and influences…Arallu rule, it’s that simple.

So if you’re unfamiliar with the band, have a read of the below and check out the band’s masterful new album Six.

Enjoy! Continue reading “Interview with Arallu”

Interview with Deny the Urge

Deny the Urge Header

It was a great pleasure recently to see Deny the Urge return to the fray with their long overdue new album As Darkness Falls. Effectively reinventing themselves on one hand, while capturing the sound and spirit of the 90s Floridian scene on the other, the album is more than just a mere homage, and offers 48 minutes of ripping death metal barbarity and darkness.

I had the chance to quiz guitarist/vocalist Henrik Osterloh about the background to As Darkness Falls, and the many challenges and issues that the band has endured over the years… Continue reading “Interview with Deny the Urge”

Interview with Execration

Execration Header

In my humble opinion Execration are one of the best extreme metal bands out there at the moment. Firmly placing themselves on my radar with their third album Morbid Dimensions, the band have recently resurfaced on Metal Blade with their latest offering Return to the Void, and I have to say it’s been more than worth the wait.

If you haven’t heard Execration yet, then now’s the chance to check them out. You can stream their shockingly good new album below, while reading what their very personable and eloquent guitarist and vocalist Chris Johansen has to say. Continue reading “Interview with Execration”

Interview with Dead Label

Dead Label Header

Dead Label are somewhat of a rarity these days in metal – a band that has the ability and potential to have quite a wide appeal, while still staying true to themselves and what metal is all about. Throne of Bones, their second album from 2016, exemplifies this.

We caught up with them fresh from their recent appearance at the Download Festival in the UK. The band’s drummer – Claire Percival – shared her rather infectious enthusiasm with us… Continue reading “Interview with Dead Label”

Interview with Wo Fat

Wo Fat Header

Wo Fat are a band that know how to write a good tune. Hot off the back of their stunning sixth album, 2016’s Midnight Cometh, they’re already thinking of what comes next for the band.

If you haven’t heard Wo Fat before I urge you to check them out. As far as I’m concerned they’re one of the best bands out there playing stoner/doom rock/metal. Continue reading “Interview with Wo Fat”

Interview with Entrails

Entrails Header

The latest Entrails release World Inferno is an utterly storming and deadly album. Effectively channelling the spirit of the old-school Swedish death metal scene, Entrails are pretty much up there with the best of the bands playing the style.

Guitarist and driving force behind the band Jimmy Lundqvist gave me a bit of added insight into the band and what they’re up to now that World Inferno is about to be unleashed on the world…

Introduce us to Entrails

Interview with Contaminated

Contaminated Logo

Australian dark death metallers Contaminated are about to unleash their debut album on the world, and what a beast it is. Final Man contains 34 minutes of pestilent, disgustingly ugly death metal, the likes of which you rarely find these days.

Rotting aesthetics aside, the band have obviously got a talent for their death metal songwriting too, as the album is full of thick, weighty slabs of brutality and darkness, all presented to the listener in ripe, virulent, plague-ridden promise. Contaminated are well worth braving sickness for.

So put on your protective gear and get stuck in – Contaminated are waiting for you… Continue reading “Interview with Contaminated”

Interview with Amiensus

Amiensus Header

The latest EP by Amiensus – All Paths Lead to Death – has shown a stripped-back band, ready to savagely burn anyone near them with their red-hot display of blistering black metal. WIth some quality songwriting skills and plenty of venomous attitude, this is 29 minutes you don’t want to miss.

So, sit back, take All Paths Lead to Death for a spin and have a read of the below… Continue reading “Interview with Amiensus”
