Stomach – Low Demon (Review)

Stomach - Low DemonThis is the second album by Stomach, a doom/sludge band from the US.

Containing 43 minutes of thoroughly obnoxious doom sludge nastiness, Low Demon is a hideous mix of doom, sludge, drone, noise, grindcore, industrial, and punk. Stomach, brought to us by current/ex-members of Weekend Nachos, know their way around the style, as becomes quickly apparent across these five tracks. Continue reading “Stomach – Low Demon (Review)”

Mizmor & Hell – Alluvion (Review)

Mizmor & Hell - AlluvionThis is a collaboration between Mizmor and Hell, both solo doom bands from the US.

Alluvion is a 40-minute blackened doom album that consists of four tracks, (two songs). It fuses the talents of both artists into a expressive whole that’s impressively wrought. Ghostsmoker – Inertia Cult (Review)

Ghostsmoker - Inertia CultThis is the debut album from Australian blackened doom/sludge band Ghostsmoker.

Playing a hideous stew of blackened sludge and doom metal, Ghostsmoker’s debut album Inertia Cult is a 42-minute endurance test – do you have what it takes to survive their onslaught of abrasive distortion and scathing darkness? Continue reading “Ghostsmoker – Inertia Cult (Review)”

Thou - UmbilicalThou are a sludge/doom band from the US and this is their sixth album.

Body Void are a great band, let’s just get that out of the way first, before we do anything else. As such, this review primarily exists to let you know just how great Atrocity Void is, because what would be the point otherwise? I mean, could Body Void have finally released a stinker? Continue reading “Body Void – Atrocity Machine (Review)”

Hellish Form – Deathless (Review)

Hellish Form are a doom/sludge band from the US and this is their second album.

Embrace the atmospheric nightmare sludge of Hellish Form. If you do, you won’t regret it. Featuring members of Body Void, Elder Devil, and KeeperDeathless contains 48 minutes of the good stuff. If by good stuff you mean a compelling mood-focused mix of funeral doom, sludge, and drone, of course. Continue reading “Hellish Form – Deathless (Review)”

Sunrot – The Unfailing Rope (Review)

Sunrot - The Unfailing RopeSunrot are a sludge band from the US and this is their second album.

Sunrot’s hostile music is a sludge metal monster that is enhanced by noise and effects in the manner of early Eyehategod records. It’s a 40-minute trip through the corridors of sludge and doom, and wears its influences on its sleeves like badges of honour. Sunrot know what they’re doing with the style though, and The Unfailing Rope is an enjoyable slab of heaviness. Continue reading “Sunrot – The Unfailing Rope (Review)”
