Palace of Worms/Ecferus – Split (Review)

Palace of Worms EcferusThis is a split between Palace of Worms and Ecferus – two US one-man black metal bands.

Both of these bands are ones that I really enjoy, and both have a history of quality releases, (check out The Ladder, Prehistory and Shamaniacal Essence), so when I found out they were sharing a split release, the expectation levels rocketed up. Cioran – Bestiale Battito Divino (Review)

CioranCioran are an Italian blackened punk band. This is their latest release.

Chaos. Ugly, blackened chaos. Underground hardcore punk with more anger and bile than you can shake a stick at. Yes, this is what you should expect from the 25 minutes of mayhem on Bestiale Battito Divino. Continue reading “Cioran – Bestiale Battito Divino (Review)”

Tenebrositas – Alone in the Frozen Wastelands (Review)

TenebrositasTenebrositas is a one-man black metal project from Croatia. This is his latest demo.

I really liked 2015’s Forever Nothing, which was a raw 34 minutes of Norwegian black metal worship that really hit the spot for me. Continue reading “Tenebrositas – Alone in the Frozen Wastelands (Review)”

The Great Old Ones – EOD: A Tale of Dark Legacy (Review)

The Great Old OnesThe Great Old Ones are a black metal band from France and this is their third album.

Boasting a larger and more comprehensive production than ever before on their latest release, The Great Old Ones sound as great as their name implies. Bold, grand and aggressively majestic, EOD: A Tale of Dark Legacy is an album to explore and be afraid of, for the dark delights it contains are not for unwary travellers. Ecferus – Shamaniacal Essence (Review)

EcferusThis is the latest EP by one man US black metal project Ecferus.

2015’s Prehistory was an album that I enjoyed so much that I regularly return to it. Evoking the grandeur and wonder of the natural world from a black metal perspective; Prehistory, and its follow up Pangaea, are both albums that I heartily recommend. Naddred – Sluagh (Review)

NaddredThis is the debut demo of Naddred, a black metal band from Ireland.

Naddred play classic black metal, influenced by the second wave and with enough spite and malice for the listener to feel it coming off the tracks in sickly, corrupt waves.

The songs, of which there are four that collectively last Continue reading “Naddred – Sluagh (Review)”

Emptiness – Not for Music (Review)

EmptinessEmptiness are from Belgium and this is their fifth album. They play experimental black metal.

Featuring members of Enthroned, this is dark, experimental, ambient post-black metal, with plenty of malevolent, melancholic atmosphere.

If you’re after the Continue reading “Emptiness – Not for Music (Review)”

Ande – Het Gebeente (Review)

AndeThis is the second album from Ande, an atmospheric black metal solo project from Belgium.

We have already encountered Ande’s 2015 debut Licht, and now it’s time to take a look at the follow up.

Longer by about 15 minutes than the first release, Het Gebeente is a more mature, confident and assured selection of dark hymns.

Starting off with a piano intro, the remaining five songs, (the sixth is different), mix the second wave of black metal with Continue reading “Ande – Het Gebeente (Review)”
