This is the fifth album from the US heavy metal band Spirit Adrift.
I’ve always enjoyed what Spirit Adrift offer, (check out Chained to Oblivion, Curse of Conception, Divided by Darkness, and Enlightened in Eternity), so new album Ghost at the Gallows is most welcome.
Across 46 minutes Spirit Adrift have crafted a collection of heavy metal songs that demonstrate a keen understanding of the style. With elements of progressive metal, doom, and hard rock to draw from, Ghost at the Gallows ticks a lot of boxes. Presenting as a well-crafted mix of bands such as Iron Maiden, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Annihilator, Haunt, Corrosion of Conformity, and Judas Priest, Spirit Adrift’s latest is a corker.
Spirit Adrift’s formula of traditional metal songs built from soaring vocals, heavy riffs, sparkling melodies, and catchy hooks is simple, but effective. These well-written tracks have all of the classic ingredients that go into making a good tune, which is why Ghost at the Gallows has eight of them packed into its running time. Each song is honest and heartfelt. There’s a confident sincerity here that comes through in the songs, enhancing their inherent manifold charms.
The music is timeless in an effortless way. If you’re a fan of any form of classic heavy metal then Ghost at the Gallows is easy to enjoy. It’s the sort of album that you keep discovering more intricate depths to over time, and grows and grows like a great friend.
Ghost at the Gallows is another strong release from Spirit Adrift. The band have produced an enjoyable and satisfying album, where each track showcases it’s own personality, while also feeding into the whole.
Highly recommended for lovers of classic heavy metal.
