Orbit Culture – Descent (Review)

Orbit Culture - DescentThis is the fourth album from Swedish metallers Orbit Culture.

Both 2020’s Nija and 2021’s Shaman made very good impressions, and now Orbit Culture are back with another 49 minutes of new material in the form of Descent.

Orbit Culture’s contemporary blend of groove metal, melodic death metal, thrash, deathcore, and metalcore is once again well-rendered and executed. Descent hits the spot accurately and with force; they sound tight and focused, and have delivered a massive album that’s packed with immense songs.

Orbit Culture have already shown they know what they’re doing with this sort of style, and Descent showcases their abilities very well indeed. The songs are packed with stomping riffs and infectious hooks, while also incorporating feeling and atmosphere. Heavy and emotive, Orbit Culture mix heavy brutality with catchy accessibility like it’s the easiest thing to do in the world.

Energetic and dynamic, the tracks contain a lot of meaty content to bite into and savour the taste of. Orbit Culture’s music tastes flavourful and satiating. Keyboards and industrial elements are used here and there, as are rich melodies and colourful solos. All of which augment the band’s core aggressive groove, delivering a very enjoyable listening experience, one that’s hard to stay still for.

Descent finds Orbit Culture on fine form once more. This is stadium-friendly heaviness that’s still brutal and aggressive enough to satisfy for longer than a simple chorus.

For fans of In Flames, Metallica, Thy Art Is Murder, Trivium, Gojira, Sylosis, Meshuggah, etc.
