With elements of jazz, punk and indie alongside the parts that more recognisably owe a debt to metal, Dreamarcher’s self-titled debut album is a must-listen for anyone that likes their distorted music delivered with a distinctly non-standard approach.
Let’s dig a little deeper and find out a little more…
Dreamarcher is Ruben (vocals and bass), Kim (vocals and drums), Odd (vocals and guitar) and Viljar (guitar). Continue reading “Interview with Dreamarcher”
Wovenwar’s second album Honor Is Dead is a surprisingly catchy and memorable example of just how electrifying modern metal can be if it develops its own personality and niche. In a scene that’s usually bogged down in a severe lack of creativity, that’s an impressive result for Wovenwar.
The band’s guitarist Nick Hipa discusses Wovenwar and their latest creation… Continue reading “Interview with Wovernwar”

Damian “Sfenson” Bednarski is behind deathgrind band Unborn Suffer and industrial metallers Kontagion. Both have had albums recently featured on this site, (Nihilist and [R-!-E]elentless, respectively), so now seemed a great opportunity to catch up with him and quiz him about both projects.
Let’s see what he has to say for himself…
Subiminal Fear’s third album, Escape from Leviathan, is a highly enjoyable mix of modern metal, cybermetal and melodic groove metal, giving the listener almost 50 minutes of aural candy that is hard to ignore.
One half of the band’s vocal duo, Carmine Cristallo, (he of the sublime clean singing voice), told us all about the band’s latest creation, Escape from Leviathan…
Hello, it’s nice to talk with you all! Subliminal Fear was formed in 2002 and when we started this project we played a melodic death metal with Swedish and some metal-core influences. In the past, there are been also many changes in our line-up and this didn’t help to make grow us like band. Domenico and me, the main writers of the songs, split from the band for some years and the second album is been released in a strange situation and without stability. Fortunately we are back after some years to work together. About that first line-up, the founder members remained are Alessio, Domenico and me. When we started to talk about a new album and I back in the band, we felt many things were changed with new musical experiences and also many new influences that we wanted to include in our music. In the beginning of 2014 we felt like we were starting with a new life for the band and the new album Escape from Leviathan is the result of our evolution. The Eternalist by Agatus is a very distinctive album. In today’s over-saturated musical climate, that description alone should hopefully be enough to pique your interest. It’s a very more-ish album too; once you’ve devoured its contents once, you want to do so again. The songs are positively infectious, and the way it switches from black metal to classic rock to heavy metal without skipping a beat…well, it’s a joyous thing to hear.
So without further preamble, let’s dive into this interview and find out why Agatus are such an individual creation…
The band was formed in Athens, Greece during the early 90s and we made our first introduction to the scene with our demo A Night of the Dark Ages (1993) a release well received and leading to the recording of our debut album ‘The Dawn of Martyrdom (1996) that was recorded the in 1994, the same year the band moved to Australia. V.I.T.R.I.O.L. by Pénitence Onirique is 47 minutes of scathing black metal, forged from darkness and unleashed with the precision assault of a targeted viral plague. Emotive melodies and blackened riffs create an atmosphere of lethal moods, making it an album that’s easy to like for black metal affectionados.
Bellovesos (B) & Diviciacos (D) conspired to answer a few questions as to the nature of the band…
P.O is a duo consisting of Bellovesos behind all instruments and composition and Diviciacos for lyrics and vocals. The idea is to create an atmospheric and complex music with lyrics that gives way to a relatively individual interpretation according to what the listener feels. I like grindcore. Let’s face it, who doesn’t? There are, however, a lot of bands that just don’t stand out enough to be worthy of real attention. Greek grinders Stheno are very much not one of these. The first time I ever heard them on their split with Grassroll, I was hooked, and when I found out they had their first full album coming out, I couldn’t wait.
Well, let me tell you in no uncertain terms – Liberty Crawls in Waste absolutely rocks. Or grinds, I suppose. But still. Stheno’s debut album is unleashed fully on the world on September 20th via EveryDayHate, but you don’t have to wait that long to get a taste of the glorious blackened brutality that they have to offer…
Today Wonderbox Metal is proud to premiere the second track on their album – Hail Nothing. The song is a blinder, all slithering malevolence and grim hatred. But don’t take my word for it; turn up the volume and blast it out at full volume. Once you’ve scraped your brains off the floor, read the interview below. Finally, make sure you order the album, because it’s a real killer. Continue reading “Interview with Stheno and Exclusive Stream of New Song”
Alteration is the latest EP by Swiss post-metallers Khaldera. It’s a short, sweeping collection of instrumental music that uses texture and colour well to create the moods that the band want. It’s a slow-burner, one that demands repeated listens as it slowly, inevitably reveals its secrets to the keen listener.
The music unfolds in such a way that there seems to be more to it than a mere 18 minutes, bit no; soon enough it’s gone, and you’re left wanting more.
It’s time to delve a bit deeper…
We’re three Swiss Shamans born deep below the earth’s crust, wandering through the dark woods, finding our way into space.
Of course we are somehow influenced by our own “music consumption”, but we don’t orientate ourselves on any other bands in terms of crafting our songs. There are a couple of influential artists, although they’re not necessarily recognisable if you listen to us. At the time when Sven and Fabio started the band, the hypnotic sound of Minsk‘s great “The Ritual Fires of Abandonment”, as well as their live performances ignited a certain energy to go beyond what they have done up to this point. In general we appreciate bands who are able to transform themselves and musically grow over the time. Continue reading “Interview with Khaldera”
