This is the debut band from Ceresian Valot, an rock band from Finland.
Brought to us by ex-members of Ghost Brigade, Uumen contains 44 minutes of a hybrid alternative/progressive/post-metal/rock style that is engaging and evocative.
Uumen combines elements of melodic, progressive, alternative, and post-metal/rock, resulting in an album that’s a melting pot of different influences. From 70s progressive rock to contemporary post-metal, via melodic doom and trip hop, Ceresian Valot have put together an album that’s immersive and transportive.
Uumen is melancholic in character, and uses its component parts well. There are riffs that draw from old-school doom metal, post-metal, and melodic metal, alongside elegant progressive rock and a trip hop/post-rock delicacy that’s intimate and introspective. It’s layered and multifaceted, bringing together its various musical aspects into a well-rendered whole that works effectively.
The music is atmospheric and textured. Uumen takes the listener on a journey that’s melancholic and downbeat, crafting soundscapes that draw the listener in close to hear tales that are filled with emotion. The songs are highly expressive, and gradually reveal their depths over time, as you get to know their sorrowful ways.
Ceresian Valot have produced a record that’s high quality, and rich in emotive atmosphere. It requires time to fully digest, but over time it reveals itself to be a satisfying and rewarding experience.
Highly recommended for fans of a range of bands, such as Anathema, Dvne, Katatonia, Múr, The Ocean, Opeth, Pelican, Shores of Null, and more.
