This is the second album from Austrian death/doom metal band Endonomos.
Endonomos II – Enlightenment contains 49 minutes of death/doom, although this tag is a bit misleading. Endonomos’ music is far richer and more emotive than many playing that style, and benefits from a base of traditional doom that’s unexpected. This makes Endonomos II – Enlightenment a much rarer gem than you’d normally find within the death/doom arena.
So, take traditional doom metal as a starting point and add in elements of death/doom, and you have an interesting and affecting hybrid style. Endonomos take these ingredients and work magic with them, crafting songs that benefit from the best of both worlds. The music’s combination of epic old-school doom metal and glacial death metal misery is masterfully wrought. Endonomos take influence from different eras and styles, old and new, to produce music that is weighty with emotion and gravitas.
The promo burb says that this is for fans of Ahab, Evoken, Mournful Congregation, Katatonia, My Dying Bride, Candlemass, Swallow the Sun, and Paradise Lost, which should give you a good idea of the sort of range that Endonomos exhibit.
Endonomos II – Enlightenment is an album of deep emotion and immersive atmosphere. It’s a melodic and absorbing journey into doom darkness, one that’s evocative in its imagery and expressive with its ambitions. Ranging from light introspective melancholy to the soaring highs of despondency and the crushing depths of despair, the songs take the listener down sinister paths deep into the night, never to return.
Don’t miss out on Endonomos’ multitude of dark charms.
