Veonity are a Swedish power metal band and this is their sixth album.
The Final Element contains 44 minutes of pure power metal goodness. The promo blurb states that Veonity are for for fans of Edguy, Gamma Ray, Hammerfall, Helloween, and Twilight Force, which sets the scene nicely.
This is an album for lovers of old-school power metal. It’s a hymn to the greats of the 90s and 00s, and I can’t help but really like it because of its wholesome metal heart. Veonity take a stripped back approach to their music, focusing on songcraft, rather than overt ostentation, technicality, or anything else.
The Final Element has been written and structured with skill and talent, that’s instantly apparent. Veonity clearly understand the classic power metal template. Importantly, they also know how to apply this template to their vision for the style, allowing their own personality to shine through just enough.
The songs are well-written and easily digested. The music is professional, but passionate. It’s energetic and rich in engaging melodies and duelling guitars, and has hooks and catchy moments aplenty. It’s important in power metal to have a vocalist that can actually sing, and Veonity’s singer can certainly belt them out. With backing vocals adding layers at key points, Veonity have a amassed strong package all-round.
The Final Element is a very enjoyable record for fans of the classic power metal style. With good songs, a good singer, and a good production, what’s not to like?
Highly recommended for fans of power metal glory!
