Deadly Carnage are a post-black metal band from Italy and this is their fifth album.
Following on from 2018’s Through the Void, Above the Suns, Deadly Carnage have now returned with 39 minutes of new material, and they have returned on fine form.
Endless Blue offers an introspective conceptual journey into Deadly Carnage’s sophisticated blackened world. This is music that has evolved from black metal, and currently resides as a sort of hybrid that exists as an amalgamation of avant-garde, doom, post-rock, progressive, shoegaze, and atmospheric elements. Deadly Carnage incorporate all of this into a post-metal framework that’s both impressive and enjoyable.
A deeply melodic work, Endless Blue ripples with emotive colour, atmospheric depth, and melancholic feeling. The album is dark and effortlessly absorbing. The guitars shimmer with post-metal resplendence and blackgaze sorrow, while the nuanced drumming provides a textured backbone to a well-fleshed out body. Featuring guests that perform instruments such as synth, piano, bouzouki, lute, mandolin, and erhu, Endless Blue is a captivating listen throughout
The vocals consist of emotive clean singing that drips with presence and emotion. The singer’s voice is hauntingly affecting, and his voice ties together a very strong musical package from a band that obviously have a clear vision for their art.
The music is well-crafted and executed, showcasing a professional band that know their art both intimately and passionately. It’s a gorgeous collection of tunes that are saturated with despondent emotion so thick you could drown in it. Deadly Carnage are very capable at what they do though, and they manage the music’s emotive impact and atmospheric immensity through tight songwriting and skilled performances.
Fans of bands such as Alcest, Anathema, Astronoid, and Anomalie should not miss out on this.
Very highly recommended.
