Defocus – There Is a Place for Me on Earth (Review)

Defocus - There Is a Place for Me on EarthDefocus are a German metalcore band and this is their second album.

Following on from 2021’s In the Eye of Death We Are All the Same comes There Is a Place for Me on Earth, bringing us 32 minutes of aggressive new material.

There Is a Place for Me on Earth is a powerhouse of modern heavy metalcore. Enhanced by electronics and blessed with ample groove and energetic hooks, this is a record designed to get you moving. It also has enough emotive depth to keep you returning, striking a balance between the surface appeal of the chunky riffs and the dance-friendly rhythms and the well-crafted nature of the atmospherics and the diverse vocals.

Metalcore, djent, nu-metal, hardcore, modern metal, and deathcore all collide to create an album of infectious tracks that are easy to revisit again and again. If you’re a fan of contemporary heaviness then Defocus are better than most, and this is a great album to slam around to at the gym, (as you do).

With a solid grasp of songcraft, emotive dynamics, and satisfying breakdowns, There Is a Place for Me on Earth is a top record if you’re a fan of the style.

Fans of Alpha Wolf, Borders, Aviana, Landmvrks, Polar, etc. should pay attention to Defocus.
