Dool – The Shape of Fluidity (Review)

Dool - The Shape of FluidityThis is the third album from Dutch dark rock band Dool.

The Shape of Fluidity contains 50 minutes of dark rock music with both a metallic and a Gothic edge, as well as containing elements of doom, post-rock and post-punk. Dool’s music flows together seamlessly, making for an individualistic blend that is extremely enjoyable and moreish.

This is music with a strong, well-formed character. This is partially due to the well-crafted music itself, and partially down to the singer, who has a natural charismatic delivery that’s full of personality and feeling. Their voice is just excellent. Taken as a whole package, Dool’s music is effortlessly endearing, full of engaging hooks, and top quality throughout.

The Shape of Fluidity drips with feeling, presenting as a luscious collection of sumptuous songs that are awash with emotion. All aspects of the music are focused on creating highly expressive multifaceted texture. This is delivered via catchy and memorable songwriting that’s impressively rendered. Dool sure do know how to write a cracking tune, that’s for sure.

Every song is a cracker. Each has its own voice, and all share in the album’s success. I particularly like the title track and Hermagorgon, as both exemplify the strongest aspects of Dool’s art, but all of the songs are firm winners.

The Shape of Fluidity is a heartfelt album offers a remarkably rewarding experience. Exceptional, and extremely enjoyable, this is an essential listen for fans of band such as Sisters of Mercy, Vanishing Kids, GGGOLDDD, Soundgarden, Impure Wilhelmina, Autumnblaze, Grave Pleasures, and HIM.
