Blood Star – First Sighting (Review)

Blood Star - First SightingBlood Star are a heavy metal band from the US and this is their debut album.

Featuring a member of Visigoth, First Sighting provides us with a 33-minute journey into the past. First Sighting is a well-written slab of traditional heavy metal. The band ply their trade with passion and obvious skill, and the songs in many ways could have come straight out of the 80s. Having said that, there’s also something of the 70s here too, with a classic rock edge that is charismatic.

The songs are bursting with catchy vocals and choruses, and the music backs the singer’s enjoyable voice with competent ease as she steals the limelight with her performance. That’s not to say that the music is inconsequential of course, as it has many memorable moments all of its own, including quite a few tasty riffs.

There are no frills to First Sighting, no ostentation, gimmicks, or pretention. What you see is what you get, which is heavy metal played well. Blood Star know what to do with the style, and they simply peel off moreish tracks like it was decades ago. First Sighting just delivers a collection of good heavy metal tunes. What more could you want?

If you’re a fan of classic heavy metal played with talent and delivered with anthemic choruses, (and, let’s face it, who isn’t?), then First Sighting is very easy to recommend.

Check it out.
