Gorepunch – Give ‘Em Hell (Review)

GorepunchGorepunch are from the US and this is their début album. They play Death Metal.

Comprised of members and ex-members from veteran groups such as Fear Factory, Aborted, System Divide and Malignancy, Gorepunch already have a lot of experience. Give ‘Em Hell makes the most of this and wastes no time in getting to the heart of the matter – blood, guts and blasting brutality. Remember, the quickest way to the heart is through the ribcage.

Their album has an interesting approach to Death Metal that takes some influence from Grindcore but largely adopts a split between Technical Death Metal and a state-of-the-art modern approach, resulting in an album that’s just at home slaying you with a direct approach or flaying you alive with an off-centre complicated attack. It’s a formula that results in a Modern Death Metal album with its putrid fingers in enough different pies to keep you happy and focused throughout the 26 minutes playing time.

The songs are like an enjoyable beating and feature good playing, pummelling riffs and savage vocals. The band use enough melodics to keep things engaging, but don’t allow them to go overboard and detract from the brutality.

A really engaging release that satisfies those cravings for a short, sharp blast of aural carnage that still has some substance to the barbarity.

For fans of Aborted, Job for a Cowboy, The Kennedy Veil, Prostitute Disfigurement, Wormed, Alterbeast, Exhumed, Ichor, etc.

Prostitute Disfigurement – From Crotch To Crown (Review)

Prostitute DisfigurementProstitute Disfigurement are from the Netherlands and play Brutal Death Metal.

It starts full force and I’m immediately sold. Blastbeats and guttural brutality lead the charge and by the time the first solo starts I’m in gory heaven.

I haven’t heard this band since their 2003 album Deeds of Derangement and was curious to hear this. As good as Deeds of Derangement undoubtedly is, unfortunately the vocals were the weak spot for me; too much pignoise and not enough brutality. Well, thankfully that no longer seems to be the case as the vocals on From Crotch To Crown are superb.

These songs are fast, nasty and what Brutal Death Metal is all about. Sometimes only Death Metal will do and this is exactly what the evil doctor ordered.

The riffs are enjoyable and there’s a surprising amount of catchiness for an album so full on. The songs work well as complete packages rather than just riff-fests and the entire thing gels together as a great ambassador for sheer violence and loud, heavy blasting.

They work hard on the riffs and it’s not all speed. Check out the main riff to Dismember the Transgender for one; it’s enough to get the hairs raising on the back of your neck.

If you’re unfamiliar with the band, think Cannibal Corpse, Desecration, Severe Torture, etc. and you’ll be in the right grisly crime scene.

Top everything off with a massive sound and you’ve got a top-tier Death Metal release on your hands.

Well, Prostitute Disfigurement have surpassed my expectations with this latest album. When brutality and speed is what you want you can’t get much better than this.
