Malevolence are a metalcore band from the UK and this is their fourth album.
2022’s Malicious Intent was a solid mix of groove metal and metalcore, so I was interested where Malevolence would take their sound and increased popularity for the 43-minute Where Only the Truth Is Spoken.
This time around, the riffs are bigger, the hooks sharper, and the songs tighter. Malevolence have picked up where Malicious Intent left off without skipping a beat, apart from injecting themselves with a fresh dose of adrenaline-charged heaviness, of course. Where Only the Truth Is Spoken is a feast of belligerent metalcore heaviness that’s destined to go down a storm in the live environment. Malevolence know how to write a good tune that combines meaty riffs, muscular catchiness, and hostile attitude. Throw in some weighty bass and a few molten metal guitar solos, and you have the whole package. The singer of Lamb of God appears on one track too.
Malevolence are professional and confident. This is their record, and they know exactly what they want to do with it. It’s full of crunchy heaviness and metallic groove, all designed to get people moving. Their energetic assault is focused around colossal hooks that dig deep and frequent backing vocals that continue to recall of the singer of Crowbar in style.
With a good combination of metal licks and hardcore punishment on offer, Where Only the Truth Is Spoken is sure to find appeal with fans of bands such as Bleed from Within, Chimaira, Crowbar, Devildriver, Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, Machine Head, Pantera, Sepultura, etc.
