Necrambulant – Upheaval of Malignant Necrambulance (Review)

Necrambulant - Upheaval of Malignant NecrambulanceThis is the second album from US death metal band Necrambulant.

Well, it’s been twelve years since Infernal Infectious Necro-Ambulatory Pandemic saw the light of day, so I thought I’d better check out Upheaval of Malignant Necrambulance to see what Necrambulant have been up to since then. Apparently they split up in 2014, only to reform in 2022 with a new lineup, (including vocals now from the bands ex-drummer). So there we are then.

Which brings us to Upheaval of Malignant Necrambulance. It’s a 33-minute monster that boasts ten new tracks and a reworked song off their debut album. It’s time to SLAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!

The Necrambulant sound is one of brutal slamming death metal. Full of meaty riffs and bloodsoaked pig vocals, Upheaval of Malignant Necrambulance is an album of crushing brutality.

Yep, this is the stuff. Easy to like, east to absorb, easy to get beaten down by. If you’re partial to a bit of the old slamming nastiness, then Necrambulant continue to be better than most. It’s heavy heavy heavy, with punishing groove and more massive chugging riffs than you can shake an entrail at. The guitar tone is sickening, the drums sound like bones hitting tin cans, and the vocals are barely human. What’s not to like?

This is the sort of thing that would typically sound stale and boring in another band’s hands, but Necrambulant seem to have that special spark that sets them apart from the slamming hordes. All of the standard ingredients are here, but somehow the songs ascend through geysers of offal to be greater than the sum of their bloody parts.

It’s near-impossible to stay still when Necrambulant are playing. The band’s slam is all groove and blast, making for songs that are hard to listen to without a huge ugly smile on your stupid face. Some of the riffs and dynamics are waaaay above average for this sort of thing. Necrambulant know how to write a good tune it seems. Honestly, it’s damn good stuff. Murderously good fun, I’m fact. I can only imagine this being explosive live.

Don’t miss this is if you’re a fan of Analepsy, Devourment, Dying Fetus, Extermination Dismemberment, Pathology, Relics of Humanity, etc.

SLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMM!
