The Omega Swarm – Crimson Demise (Review)

The Omega Swarm - Crimson DemiseThis is the debut album of German black metal band The Omega Swarm.

Brought to us by a member of Sulphur AeonCrimson Demise contains 41 minutes of hybrid death metal. The Omega Swarm throw a lot of ingredients into their recipe, resulting in a feast of atmospheric blackened death metal for listeners to chow down on.

The Omega Swarm’s brand of death metal is a multifaceted one that incorporates atmospheric and blackened elements, making for music that delivers an aggressively rich darkness. Punishing drums, fierce riffs, and layered synths collaborate to produce songs that blend their elements together well. There’s grandiose atmosphere and colourful melodies aplenty, along with a selection of leads that hit the spot nicely. The vocals consist of screams, roars, and growls delivered on a broad spectrum, (as well as the occasional bout of clean and semi-clean singing), all of which are well-performed throughout.

Crimson Demise features an intricate song-based approach that boasts many hooks and memorable moments, yet also requires time and work to fully appreciate. The songs have a lot of moving parts, and don’t typically rely on any one component leading the way for too long. It all has a firm death metal base, of course, but atop this The Omega Swarm have built an array of different structures. From robust blunt functionality to lightweight detailing, a lot of craftsmanship has obviously gone into Crimson Demise.

The Omega Swarm’s combination of harsh brutality, blackened abyssal depths, and atmospheric grandeur is a well-crafted one. If you’re a fan of bands such as Hate, Hypocrisy, Behemoth, Septicflesh, 1914, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Belphegor, and of course, Sulphur Aeon, then there is much to explore and enjoy on Crimson Demise.
