Coffin Curse – The Continuous Nothing (Review)

Coffin Curse - The Continuous NothingCoffin Curse are a death metal band from Chile and this is their second album.

The Continuous Nothing is the 43-minute follow up to 2020’s Ceased to Be, and builds upon that album’s solid foundations. Coffin Curse are easy to enjoy if you are a fan of 90s-influenced death metal.

Coffin Curse’s classic death metal sound is welcome to hear on The Continuous Nothing, and it provides an enjoyable and satisfying listen. Falling somewhere between Krisiun and Hate Eternal, along with other influences scattered around, (Autopsy, Morbid Angel, Deicide, Immolation, etc.), this is a massive pile of old-school death metal body parts, sewn together with impassioned skill.

The well-written songs are blistering torrents of brutality and fierce aggression. They’re based on the old-school template – song-focused, with deliberately engaging riffs, melodies that highlight without overwhelming, and macabre atmosphere that’s infectiously delivered. Coffin Curse know what they’re doing with the style, and The Continuous Nothing is hideously good stuff if you like your death metal fast, memorable, and aggressive.

The Continuous Nothing is a strong second offering from Coffin Curse. I like this a great deal, as all aspects of it are tailor made to appeal to someone who was raised on this sort of thing.

Highly recommended for fans of the style.
