Appalooza – The Shining Son (Review)

Appalooza - The Shining SonAppalooza are a French heavy rock band and this is their third album.

The Shining Son contains 45 minutes of quality rock music. Taking in elements of the hard, stoner, and alternative rock/grunge styles, Appalooza’s charismatic music is easy to like.

The music is well-written and built around a classic song-focused approach. Crafted from hooks and catchy vocals, backed up my engaging melodies, compelling riffs, and some wonderfully rhythmic and textured drumming, The Shining Son hits a lot of hard to reach spots. All of the band members excel in their performances, but apart from the singer, (always a focal point in a band like this, and with good reason here), the standout for me is the drummer, with an inventive and nuanced delivery throughout. Honestly though, all of the band are on fire.

This is the mix of classic hard rock, 90s grunge music, and driving stoner that you never knew you needed. The band’s passionate delivery and clear enthusiasm for their material is infectious. Mixing together the type of music that you can go wild to, with the sort of emotive impact that draws you in is not normally easy, but Appalooza do it without breaking stride.

Quite simply, The Shining Son is a top notch collection of tunes. Appalooza have seriously impressed. This is an essential listen for any fan of killer rock music.
