This is the second album from Black Fucking Cancer, a black metal band from the US.
What can you say about a band with a name like Black Fucking Cancer, other than to describe them as sounding completely and utterly evil? 2016’s Black Fucking Cancer and 2019’s Boundless Arcane Invokations – Split with Gloam, both impressed me with their malignant take on underground black metal, so when Procreate Inverse raised its ugly head, I knew I had to prepare myself for a beating.
And a beating I have received. Procreate Inverse is like a bile-spewing statement of intent from the band. They are the enemies of purity and goodness, and across five tracks, (six with the bonus Katharsis cover), they spread their filth and malevolent hatred with wild abandon.
The music is a brutal assault of degenerate aggression. The promo blurb mentions bands like Funeral Mist, Aosoth, Antaeus, Katharsis, Gorgoroth, and Marduk, and although these are entirely appropriate and suitable, Black Fucking Cancer shine with their own inner dark light that seems to propel them into their own corrupted Hell dimension, where they rule without mercy.
Fast, nasty, deranged, and warped, these songs are simultaneously raw black metal and daemonic incursion. The music is chaotic and untamed; it seems to strain against the leashes its creators keep it on. Feral and savage, this is black metal at its most nihilistic and base.
Yet, for all that, Black Fucking Cancer are not without infernal skill. The songs are well-written, despite their unhinged veneer, and the band do inject elements of thought and consideration into the maelstrom of spiked gauntlets and serrated knives that you’ll find on this record.
Procreate Inverse is a hate-filled misanthropic album filled with grim diatribes and scornful attitude. It’s also a very good and enjoyable record that anyone into relentless, uncompromising black metal should check out.
