This is the debut album from US death metallers Applaud the Impaler.
Applaud the Impaler smash together death metal, deathcore, and grindcore into a heaving mess of blood and entrails. This is quite the brutal delight.
This is long-form deathgrind that features some deathcore elements that add a serving of instant-appeal slamming ugliness, as well as a technicality that brutally layers complex aggression upon harsh underpinning belligerence. Some of the latter technical aspects really cause you to take notice. I mean, how could you not as they basically reach straight out of the speakers and rip your face off.
This is savage, ruthless music. Each of the 12 tracks here offers something a little different, some variant of the band’s core sound to keep things interesting and creative. There’s a diverse array of extremity on offer across these 44 minutes, and it helps to hold attention and keep the listener engaged over what is a relatively long album for something this mercilessly ferocious.
Ov Apocalypse Incarnate has elements of a band like Dying Fetus in some of the technical leads, the inventiveness of a band like Crowpath in some of the atypical riffs, the brutal inhumanity of The Berzerker, the death metal muscle of someone like Deranged, the modern technicality of a band like Trigger the Bloodshed, the direct deathcore nastiness of Vulvodynia, the insanity of Cephalic Carnage…I could go on, but suffice to say that there are quite a few other references sewn into this album’s rotting corpse. Applaud the Impaler merge all of this and more into a relentless, hammering album of utter brutality and chaos.
Ov Apocalypse Incarnate is a well-delivered collection of tracks that simply want to annihilate you fully and completely. Listen to this with body armour on.
