This is the second album from Turkish death metallers Diabolizer.
2021’s Khalkedonian Death was a very enjoyable slab of devastatingly effective death metal. Murderous Revelations continues Diabolizer’s ascent, delivering a crushing 39-minute feast of classic death metal butchery.
Now this is what I like. No nonsense, no frills, timeless death metal aggression. Diabolizer hit the spot. This is an album without filler. Bucking the trend of seemingly most bands these days, there are no crappy intro, interlude, or outro tracks to be seen. This is pure 100% death metal carnage from start to finish. Mostly at any rate – Diabolizer do inject a few other lethal ingredients here and there, but even these just bolster their raging death metal further.
Despite having the same number of songs as its predecessor, Murderous Revelations is about seven minutes shorter. It’s a leaner, meaner beast. Khalkedonian Death was a monster of muscle and iron, and Murderous Revelations simply refines this into an even more effective killing machine.
The riffs are ferocious, and the drums punishing. The vocals are more hideous and harsh than ever. It’s like the vocalist has swallowed a daemon that’s now trying to crawl out through his face, via inhuman growls, roars, and screams. Nasty, nasty stuff.
Murderous Revelations is intense, but not one dimensional. There is songcraft and texture, with a range of intricate ideas and structural dynamics playing out. Amidst the rampant brutality you’ll also find dark atmosphere, technical nuance, grindcore extremity, and blackened teeth. When deployed, these assets simply feed into and enrage the death metal fury that sits at the heart of Diabolizer, spurring them on to ever greater acts of violence. The end result is a well-rounded and very satisfying death metal album. The additional influences and musical elements all simply enrich Diabolizer’s death metal onslaught.
If you’re a fan of bands such as Deicide, Hate Eternal, Krisiun, Malevolent Creation, Morbid Angel, and Nile, then this is absolutely for you.
Essential listening.
