This is the fifth album from Italian thrash metal band Game Over.
I find I have a low tolerance for thrash these days, much lower than I used to have. I’m not sure why, but it just doesn’t grab my attention like it once did. However, there are exceptions, and, for whatever reason, Game Over are one of them.
Hellframes contains 43 minutes of new material – the band’s first in six years – and it’s great to hear them thrashing on all cylinders once more.
Game Over deal in quality thrash metal. Hellframes is exactly that, no more, no less. It’s an 80s-influenced amalgamation of stylistic influences that the band wield with considerable skill. If you’re a fan of bands such as Testament, Megadeth, Death Angel, Anthrax, and Metallica, then there’s a lot to like here.
The songs are well-written and authentically THRASH METAL through and through. Game Over know their way around a good crunchy riff, and can write a solid chorus with ease. The album’s more diverse, (within its set framework), than you might expect, (there’s even a ballad), and Game Over have clearly spent time on song structure and album flow, with positive results.
Easy to like, fun to listen to. Hellframes hits the spot nicely. Highly recommended for any fan of old-school thrash.
