This is the second album from US death metal band Gates to Hell.
Gates to Hell play a form of death metal that’s been injected with hardcore urgency, grindcore intensity, and slamming heaviness. With ten songs in 21 minutes, Death Comes to All wastes little time and gives the listener a brutally good time.
As a rough overview, Gates to Hell remind me of a mix of bands like 200 Stab Wounds, Despised Icon, Escuela Grind, Fuming Mouth, Nails, and Sanguisugabogg.
Flexing classic death metal muscles in a tight fitting hardcore shirt, Gates to Hell are brutally good fun. With meaty guitars and a specially prepared precision formula, the band blast, groove, and slam their way through the short running time barely losing breath. It’s a feast of hardcore-infused deathly heaviness.
The songs are direct and to the point. Despite their brevity, they’re focused on crushing mid-paced heaviness designed for the live environment more than anything. Having said that though, when they do speed up, they’re vicious. There’s not a whole lot of grind here, but you can hear it in places. For the most part, the band combine their hardcore and death metal influences into brief eruptions of huge pit-friendly riffs.
Death Comes to All is a solid and enjoyable album. Definitely one to check out if you’re a fan of the bands mentioned above or are looking for a very gym-friendly adrenaline-soaked does of heaviness.
