Khold are a Norwegian black metal band and this is their eighth album.
Du Dømmes til Død contains 33 minutes of black metal that’s primitive and deadly. Khold’s latest release hits the spot nicely.
The Khold formula is a simple one – old-school black metal, stripped to the bone, cold as ice, and relentless in its steamroller approach. This is black metal that’s heavy on the riffs, giving it a distinct heavy metal feel in places, (as well as a sort of Rammstein-esque stomp, particularly on cuts like Misgrep). There are so many enjoyable riffs it’s silly. Honestly, the guitars on this album are just hideously infectious. Basically, imagine a black metal band from the classic second wave era, and then beef it up with an embarrassment of riffs.
Khold know how to write a good song, and Du Dømmes til Død‘s tracks are short, to-the-point, and effective. It’s song-based groove all the way, with an emphasis on catchy songwriting, mid-paced blackened heaviness, and frozen hooks. Melody is uncommon, but well-used when it appears. It’s not totally without atmospheric touches either. The guitars are the main stars of the show in many ways, but they’re backed up by a solid percussive backbone, and vocals that are catchy in their own right; the singer’s rhythms and vocal patterns complement the music well, providing yet further hooks to become ensnared by.
If you’re a fan of no-frills, mid-paced, old-school black metal, then I fail to see how Du Dømmes til Død couldn’t move you, in more ways than one. A Khold live show must surely just be one huge headbanging dance-fest, so irresistibly contagious is this.
Highly recommended.

I like to point out that this album is not black metal.
