This is the second album from Serbian thrash metal band Jenner.
Prove Them Wrong contains 45 minutes of classic thrashing metal the likes of which you don’t commonly encounter in 2023. It’s very endearing and top fun – Jenner know how to play this sort of thing that’s for sure.
Jenner’s music mixes together thrash, speed, and heavy metal, delivering a charismatic old-school package. The band’s thrash foundation is augmented by the other styles, allowing for a well-rounded collection of songs that lean into one style or another to a greater or lesser extent across the album. This makes for an album that flows nicely, placing thrashier numbers alongside more groove-based cuts or songs that emphasise their emotive qualities more.
Prove Them Wrong is well-written and executed, with good performances across the board. The songs are sharp, tight, and packed with riffs and hooks. It reminds me of the 80s a lot, although there is certainly more to Jenner than a throwback retro band. The songwriting is strong, demonstrating a firm grasp of what makes a good metal tune. Jenner succeed in taking a classic genre and producing something worth listening to in 2023. It’s delivered with a passion, energy, and personality that brings out the best in the style.
Prove Them Wrong offers an enjoyable experience for any fan of classic thrash metal. The album’s riffs, leads, solos, and choruses are all above average for this sort of thing, placing Jenner easily above the generic thrash and heavy metal hordes.
Very highly recommended for fans of bands such as Megadeth, Testament, Burning Witches, and Metal Church.
