Bio-Cancer – Revengeance (Review)

Bio-Cancer - RevengeanceThis is the third album from Greek melodic thrash/death metal band Bio-Cancer.

Strap yourself in and get ready for a wild ride. This isn’t the thrash metal of the 80s, although it’s absolutely influenced by it. Imagine early Kreator, only with increased intensity, and then throw in a energetic melodic death metal influence, and you’ll have a rough idea of where Bio-Cancer operate from.

Revengeance doesn’t mess around, and across 44-minutes it ravages and destroys everything in its path, yet does so with finesse and skill. What Bio-Cancer do well is to take the well-worn old-school thrash metal style and inject it with a mutant strain of adrenaline that turns everything up to extreme metal levels of intensity, while also crafting the sort of melodies that keep you coming back for more.

This is classic thrash metal by way of modern melodic extremity. However, Bio-Cancer haven’t lost sight of the songwriting lessons learned from the old-school, and incorporate these tips and tricks into their music to craft something that’s both infectious and aggressive. The band’s melodic death metal elements are firmly embedded, working with the thrash heart of the songs to efficiently pump enhanced blood all around the album’s muscular frame.

The songs are well-written and frequently pack in hooks and catchiness, along with no small amount of both wanton violence and atmosphere. Delivering raw hostility and memorable content is not always easy, but Bio-Cancer make it seem so.

Driven by speed and aggression, yet tempered by a keen understanding of dynamics and a strong ear for melodic riffs that just won’t quit, Revengeance is infectious and fun as Hell to listen to.

Very highly recommended.
