Although I’d ideally love to be able to conduct hard-hitting, in-depth interviews, who has the time these days? In lieu of this, I’ve thrown together the below question template, hopefully to gather some interesting and informative results, without taking up too much of anyone’s time.
Introduce yourself – who are you and what do you do?
Hi, everyone! I’m Marco “Mark” Bravi, keyboardist, lyricist and co-producer of italian-swiss prog band Virtual Symmetry.
Tell us about your latest release and why people should listen to your music
Our latest album is a self-titled LP, Virtual Symmetry, containing 8 all-new tracks for 1 hour of music in which you will find the typical Virtual Symmetry elements, (cinematic atmospheres, sweet melodies, epic orchestral fragments and a heavy, bold rhythmic section), with a more “live show” twist to it, taking a small distance from the soundtrack vibe of the previous albums.
What’s the most important thing to you about your music? What meaning does it give you and what purpose does it serve in your life?
Personally, music is an actual language and with the aid of lyrics helps me share thoughts, give tips, let listeners know how we feel and what matters the most to us, always taking a look to the bright side of things without losing the view on the whole.
My objective is to let myself be aided by music in expressing myself and even tell my own personal stories, feeling closer to people who may need some kind of support or just to feel understood even if from a long distance.
I’ve been taking some pauses from music in the last 2 years due to a lack of general inspiration and to focus on personal matters, but I feel the creativity slowly coming back to me and you will surely listen to it in any project I may be involved in and of course SEE IT on stage with Virtual Symmetry in any of our upcoming live shows!
Tell us a lesser-known interesting or funny anecdote about your band or music
Virtual Symmetry’s story has been pretty unusual since I became a member of the band; we played our first live show ever as opening act for Evergrey and Dream Theater in 2015, with just a couple of demos released at the time, then released 3 records, an EP and 2 live albums through the year, having the chance to play alongside incredible musicians like Deep Purple’s Don Airey, Dream Theater’s Jordan Rudess, legendary drummer Thomas Lang, polish symphonic orchestra Sinfonietta Consonus and taking part to our first tour ever in September/October 2022 with Fractal Universe and Evergrey, travelling all around Europe for 34 shows in 38 days.
Finally, what are you listening to at the moment that you especially enjoy and wish more people knew about?
After a long time listening mainly to soundtracks and podcasts and getting to know older tracks more I’m “coming back to” recent rock/metal music to feed my need for new inspirations and general creative inputs.
This said, I would suggest three albums: Seventh Wonder’s The Testament, for more progressive-oriented listeners; Muse’s Will of the People, to take a listen to a greatly produced mixture of all that’s present time music; Danny Elfman’s Big Mess, for those crazy like-minded producers who love to dig more into the production side of music.
