Sacrilegium are a Polish Black Metal band and this is their second album.
This is sophisticated Black Metal that shrouds itself in occult auras and mystical vibes.
Sacrilegium have produced an album that has a very modern feel, but nonetheless knows where it came from and pays its dues accordingly. With elements of the atmospheric and progressive styles entwined in its dark embrace, Anima Lucifera blasts and pummels its way through its playing time with style and panache.
The band have a good ear for melody and there’s enough of this included in these songs to add depth and colour, but without going too far into melodic Black Metal territory.
There are also enough esoteric and arcane influences present on this release to create a mysterious aura and there are lots of interesting ideas included throughout.
Sacrilegium have returned after a 20 year gap between this and their début release with a very strong collection of music. This album is well-written, professional and feels true to form.
I’ve enjoyed this a lot – have a listen and see what you think.
