It has been six long year’s since 2020’s Behold the Silent Dwellers, but now comes its 34-minute successor, To Become the Endless Static. Aversio Humanitatis have produced a top tier album that’s sure to find favour with fans of bands such as Deathspell Omega, Misþyrming, Panzerfaust, and Selbst.
Aversio Humanitatis play modern black metal stained deeply with dissonant darkness and enhanced with death metal belligerence. It’s sharp, technical, and surgically precise, yet still carries a weight of feeling in its cold iron bones. With a crisp production and professional execution, To Become the Endless Static provides the listener with a maelstrom of controlled chaos to navigate. Aversio Humanitatis deliver a sonic assault that’s devastating, while also engaging the listener at levels beneath and above the violence.
The band make constructive use of layered songwriting, with a keen ear for bleak melody, to produce music of high impact. Despite the intensity and aggression on display, the songs benefit from the band’s comprehensive approach to songcraft that lets them offer up more than simple brutality. The melodic components in the music allow the band to build atmospheric immersion and imbue their songs with emotive depth. This works well, making for a compelling listening experience. To Become the Endless Static is harsh and furious at its core, but uses this to evoke mood and feeling within the hostility.
This is a record that presents as a whirlwind of icy fury, born of calculating malice, yet also has a heart, no matter how frozen.
