This is the latest EP from US death metallers Necronomicon ex Mortis.
I enjoyed my introduction to Necronomicon ex Mortis last year via their split with Bloodfeast Ritual, so was glad to see a new EP appear. Six songs, 30 minutes; Zombie Blood Nightmare offers up a treasure trove of old-school death metal blood-soaked gems to sift through.
Do you yearn for a version of death metal that operates in a time where the boundaries between death and thrash metal were less defined? Do you enjoy classic death metal bands, but want more solos? Do you like horror movies, riffs, and the aforementioned guitar solos to be GARGANTUAN guitar solos? If so, you’ll get on well with Zombie Blood Nightmare. Necronomicon ex Mortis kick out the entrail-covered jams, and it’s great gory fun.
The songs are well-written and full of bloody hooks. It’s obviously apparent that Necronomicon ex Mortis understand the style they’re playing deeply, and have the skills and ability to realise their atavistic vision for death metal. Zombie Blood Nightmare has some good death metal tunes on it, and a decent amount of variety within its chosen musical framework; the band know their stuff.
So, yet another solid release from Necronomicon ex Mortis. I look forward to seeing what they can do with a full length. Until then, get your teeth into Zombie Blood Nightmare before it gets its teeth into you.
