Clairvoyance – Chasm of Immurement (Review)

Clairvoyance - Chasm of ImmurementThis is the debut album from Polish death metallers Clairvoyance.

Chasm of Immurement contains 34 minutes of old-school death metal. Clairvoyance’s debut album takes us back to the 90s, while still crushing in 2025. If you’re a fan of bands such as Cerebral Rot, Genocide Pact, Incantation, Phrenelith, Necrot, and Tomb Mold, then this is one for you.

The songs are well-written and the album sounds very tasty; Clairvoyance have opted for a production that’s heavy and thick, but without being impenetrable. This allows the songs to come to grisly life, committing gruesome murderous acts when they rage, and flattening all around them when they unleash the doom.

Chasm of Immurement boasts a compelling mix of rolling death metal heaviness and macabre atmosphere. The components are well-judged and appropriately balanced, but I like that Clairvoyance do push out at either extreme in places; on the one hand the blast beats occasionally tear through the music like feral aggressors, while on the other hand sometimes the atmosphere is allowed to take control, building eerie sounds that haunt and menace.

This is good, ugly, death metal fun. Chasm of Immurement is a record that’s pretty effortless to enjoy if you like the style. Clairvoyance know how to handle the material, have an ear for a good riff, and can throw out crushing grooves like nobody’s business.

Yep, this one’s a winner. Old-school death metal fans will find a lot to like here.

Very highly recommended.
