This is the second album from black metal band Blood Abscission.
I I contains 41 minutes of black metal that’s melodic and atmospheric. However, this is such a simple description for something so exceptional. Blood Abscission have created a record that’s destined to stay with me for some time. Holy crap this is good.
Blood Abscission combine melodic and atmospheric black metal, crafting an album of contemporary black metal that’s richly rendered.
The mix of aggression and atmosphere is intoxicating. Between the furious expressions of dark intensity, the mournful melodic overtones that carry great weight, and the high pitched screams that are buried in the mix just as they should be for music like this, I I is a compelling experience. Add to this drums that underpin everything with nuanced determination, and synths/keyboards that bring a further layer of emotive depth, and you have a black metal album that’s designed for lasting impact.
There were so many times during my first listen of I I that I was in awe of what I was hearing, was moved way more than I should have been, or simply swore out loud – I I is striking and instantly impressive. Importantly, this only gets better over time, as the standout parts of each track settle into their surroundings and the entire song comes to life with remarkably potent impact. Blood Abscission have truly hit upon something special here. This is breathtaking stuff.
I I is an exemplar of atmospheric black metal, ripe with melodic grace, symphonic highlights, and a talent for blistering riffs. I I is an extremely strong record, and that’s putting it mildly. This balance of underground blackened might, atmospheric depth, and richly expressive songwriting doesn’t come along very often, so make sure you absolutely do not miss this utterly essential black metal gem.
Rage, fury, and beauty in darkness.
