Bloodbark – Sacred Sound of Solitude (Review)

Bloodbark - Sacred Sound of SolitudeBloodbark are a black metal band and this is their second album. The country of origin and number of members is apparently unknown.

Sacred Sound of Solitude provides us with 41 minutes of atmospheric black metal. The atmospheric core is augmented by elements of post-black metal, blackgaze, and post-rock, contributing to the richness of the album’s blackened heart. This approach allows Bloodbark to produce music that’s immersive and textured.

Melancholy and beauty are woven around each other across an album that draws you in right from the start. The songs are as cold as the album cover, and just as majestic too. This is windswept atmospheric black metal, drawing inspiration from the frozen heights and the frosted depths. The music is powerful and the atmospheres deep, while also leaving ample room for icy fragility and delicate introspection.

Sacred Sound of Silence is a well-put-together album. The melodies bite deep, while the keyboards recall ancient times of unspoiled splendour. I wasn’t expecting clean vocals to make an appearance, but they do at key points across the album. These are largely blackgaze-esque in style, and work well with the rest of the music. The main vocals are harsh and scratchy, like static running across the top of the distortion; it’s a delivery that works extremely well with this sort of material.

If nature-themed atmospheric black metal is your thing, especially if you like it spliced with post-black metal, then be sure to spend time with Sacred Sound of Solitude. Bloodbark have made a record that’s very easy to enjoy, so make sure that you absorb yourself in this release.

  1. Must be American if they are concealing their origin. As it’s always a hard sale as an American band in black metal, and to be ambiguously European will help them with sales.
