Faithxtractor are a death metal band from the US and this is their fifth album.
Following on from 2023’s Contempt for a Failed Dimension, Faithxtractor return with the 37-minute Loathing & the Noose. This band haven’t disappointed me yet, so dig in if you’re a fan of death metal that smashes your skull and stomps your bones.
Get ready for some brutal old-school death metal punishment. Faithxtractor ply their trade with violent skill. They blast with aggressive speed and burn with mid-paced groove, while also taking the time to occasionally crush with massive doom heaviness, (Flooded Tombs has a great example of this). Laced with lethal melody, it’s a potent cocktail of death metal malice and macabre intensity that the band unleash across this album.
Faithxtractor know how to effectively write material like this. The songs exemplify the sort of classic death metal that has a timeless feel to it. Each song is death metal easy listening to me, as they just flow with a rolling brutality that’s effortless to enjoy. Faithxtractor have the whole package. The riffs are strong, writhing and twisting into malevolent shapes. The melodies are embedded deep into the distortion, and make an impactful contribution to the whole. The growled are vocals deep, dark, and monstrous. What’s not to like?
Loathing & the Noose is a very enjoyable record. It offers a satisfying listen throughout its running time. Faithxtractor hit the spot, once more.
