Hammerfall are a Swedish heavy/power metal band and this is their thirteenth album.
I do enjoy visiting the world of Hammerfall when I can, (check out Built to Last, Glory to the Brave, and Renegade 2.0 too), so Avenge the Fallen is well-received. Hammerfall’s latest contains 47 minutes of new music, and is a strong record from this veteran band.
Avenge the Fallen is an album packed with heavy/power metal anthems. The songs have been crafted by experts in the field, and even after all this time Hammerfall still know how to pen a damn good tune. It’s a collection of tracks that are ripe with strong verses, catchy choruses, and memorable guitars. Yep, it’s great to have a new Hammerfall album.
In many ways this is classic Hammerfall, but not completely, as Hammerfall are still pushing themselves to provide a variety of moods, paces, and feelings across the record. I like that the band don’t hide behind their singer either – despite his quality voice, the music doesn’t play second fiddle, and instead has had thought and consideration poured into it. Avenge the Fallen carries an infectious energy, and Hammerfall are firing on all cylinders.
I mean, if you’re a fan of heavy/power metal, what’s not to like here? The style is based around having good songs and a good singer, and Hammerfall have both. It’s fun, it’s easy to enjoy, and is packed with cracking songs. What more could you want?
Very highly recommended.
