Aposento – No Safe Haven (Review)

Aposento - No Safe HavenThis is the fourth album form Spanish death metallers Aposento.

I enjoyed 2014’s Aposento and 2017’s Bleed to Death, although I missed 2020’s Conjuring the New Apocalypse. Aposento are now back, with an almost entirely new lineup, and 34 minutes of music in the form of the muscular No Safe Haven.

No Safe Haven delivers a belligerent punch of old-school death metal right upside your head. Aposento are lean and violent, striking out with confidence and aggression.

This is of the 90s school of death metal, and Aposento have learned their lessons well. No Safe Haven is effortlessly enjoyable due to this. Recalling acts such as Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, Malevolent Creation, and Suffocation. No Safe Haven takes influence from these classic acts, (and others), yet still offers something of its own. Aposento know their grisly work well, and No Safe Haven is a solid slab of death metal.

The songs are short and precise, and there’s no messing around from the band. Full of chunky riffs, well-performed blunt growls, and a full-bodied production, No Safe Haven rolls out of the speakers like a steamroller covered in spikes. Aposento are here to destroy.

No Safe Haven is brutally good fun. It’s the sort of record that you can enjoyably listen to with ease. It’s professional and passionate, balancing the two so that the songs hit the spot. Yep, this is good stuff. If you’re in the market for some 90s-style death metal you can do a lot worse than this. Check it out.
