This is the second album from German black metallers MNHG.
Necare is the 37-minute follow up to 2021’s Mundare. This new record sees the band taking firm strides forward with their music, with stronger performances and production values that allow the nine tracks to shine.
MNHG once again assault the airwaves with blackened groove built around the black ‘n’ roll template. Necare advances the band’s sound through songwriting refinements, allowing for greater variation within their stylistic template, and once more placing a solid emphasis on riffs, riffs, riffs! Of course, there’s more than just a whole lot off riffery going on here, but MNHG are certainly adept at peeling off a good riff or ten.
The MNHG formula is a simple one, but effective. Old-school second wave black metal, mixed with a rock ‘n’ roll swagger and a touch of thrash. The entire thing reeks of a confidence that comes with knowing damn well what you’re doing. The well-written songs are easily addictive, and MNHG’s music is catchy and memorable.
There’s very little to complain about on Necare. The structure of the songs works well, and there’s lots of dynamic energy on display. The vocals have developed further, adding a more diverse delivery that’s based around a classic blackened snarl. The leads are tastefully and effectively implemented, highlighting and accentuating in key places, and taking the spotlight when needed. Honestly, this is good stuff.
As much as I did enjoy Mundare, Necare is the superior record. MNHG are firmly cementing themselves as ones to pay close attention to when it comes to this strain of black metal.
