Bihargam – Executioner Star (Review)

Bihargam - Executioner StarBihargam are a black metal band from the US and this is their latest EP.

Following on from 2020’s Ove TenebraeExecutioner Star contains two new songs and a Soundgarden cover, making for a total duration of a little over 16 minutes.

The EP opens with the title track, which is a thrashy little blackened number with an infernal edge. Its jagged riffs bring to mind a thrashier Immortal, and the song has a great presence and instant appeal. A strong opening statement from Bihargam.

Vengeance Becomes Me is the longest track here, and it uses its time to unfold wings of melodic darkness. It portrays a black metal landscape that’s just as spiked and aggressive as its predecessor, but in a less direct way; Vengeance Becomes Me has more of a mood-building feel, taking a melodic and atmospheric approach to songcraft, despite its obvious immediate strengths. Due to this, I think this is the superior song out of the two.

The closing cut is a cover of Soundgarden’s Jesus Christ Pose, and it’s a scorcher. If you ever wondered what the original would sound like if it were an aggressive black metal song, then wonder no more. Good stuff.

A solid EP from Bihargam, one that promises positive things in the future. If you’re unfamiliar with this band then take the time to get to know them.

Highly recommended.
