Silverburn – Self Induced Transcendental Annihilation (Review)

Silverburn - Self Induced Transcendental AnnihilationThis is the debut album Silverburn, a one-man metal/hardcore band from Wales.

Brought to us by an ex-member of Taint and Hark, Self Induced Transcendental Annihilation contains 31 minutes of heavy music that looks back in time for its inspiration, but delivers a slab of brutality wrapped in modern intensity.

Drawing influence from 90s/00s metal, hardcore, and mathcore bands, Self Induced Transcendental Annihilation definitely makes me feel nostalgic. It’s an authentic ride into the time of heavy, aggressive music that existed to crush and rage with less concern for stylistic boundaries. Executed with contemporary production values and an obvious passion for the material, these eight songs brim with muscular guitars and well-played drums.

Bringing its influences together under an umbrella of heavy music, Self Induced Transcendental Annihilation presents as a mechanised beast of angular riffs, harsh shouts, and percussive rhythmic punishment. It’s a satisfying exploration of heaviness that requires multiple spins to truly appreciate, but when it clicks, it destroys.

If you’re a fan of the atypical stylings of bands such as Burnt by the Sun, Botch, Blood Has Been Shed, Deadguy, Torn Apart, Coalesce, Skycamefalling, and Drowningman, then make sure you give Silverburn some time.
